Beginnings
Jim Allchin is a Tattoo Artist that grew up in Huntington Beach, California.
Jim was drawing designs on his arms as a kid and doing sketches in class instead of studying. He lived a very rebellious life and loved to be different. Jim got his first professional tattoo at the age of 15.
Jim tried to tattoo himself by hand, and it turned out so horrible that needed a cover-up ASAP. Needless to say, Jim never did that again and neither should you.
Career
I had loved the idea of tattooing and getting tattooed pretty much my whole life. I used to hangout at my friends tattoo shop in Laguna, and you know what they say. “If you hang out in a barber shop you’re going to get a hair cut”. I moved to the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii in the early 90’s in search for surf and a more tranquil life.
We then, moved to Maui Hawaii and there, I met the previous owner of Island Avenue Tattoo Craig Helmich who apprenticed me for the next few years. I then honed my skills in a tattoo shop south of Pittsburgh Pa. for the next 8 years or so.

Business Ventures
Jim and his wife Coco bought the Famous Island Ave. Tattoo Shop circa 2004-05. The shop brings to the area Jim’s knowledge of Polynesian art in his freehand tribal tattoo’s. Jim loves to work with Japanese designs. This tattoo artist has been blessed to have worked side by side with many talented artists over the years.

A modest honor, but a very important one. Jim Allchin continues the tradition of good clean solid work that the shop has a reputation for and constantly learns from the tattoo industry, to stay on top of my game. Jim is truly been blessed to be able to do what he loves and loves what he does.
