The book can be found all over the internet. Amazon on other places. It is full of basic “tattoo starter” information. Everyone wants the fast lane to everything and we understand that. But when you are tattooing it is no longer the 1970’s where people just inked other people. There is the Alliance of Professional Tattooists.
Know your tattoo industry. Be prepared at all times to go out into the tattoo world. It is very competitive and their are some great tattoo artists that are out there for a long time. Its a tattoo marathon not a sprint. Great tattoo artists that have paid their dues and are now reaping the benefits are: Ami James, Kat Von D, Megan Massacre, Mr. Cartoon and many more.
Be sure to get a tattoo aprenticeship. Have a good tattoo portfolio. If someone is going to take you under their wing you should give yourself the best chance possible to work with the best. It is not always a free aprenticeship. Lets face it, tattoos are in. Some tattoo shops and artists require payment for the tattoo apprenticeship. If its what you truly love then it is well worth the money especially if you get a chance to work with the best.
Like any other business, the tattoo business is no exception. It is not enough to be just a great artist, a tattoo artist. You should know at the very least about running a business if you are to open a tattoo shop. Pay the bills first and if you have a good business then you are off and running.
